Description

Do you feel you're at a cross-roads or trying to navigate a challenging phase in your training?

Description:

This session was designed for health professional students and life scientists who are wondering how they can manage their professional transitions more successfully. Come learn from UCSF alumni in the biosciences and health professions about how they managed their difficult transitions and what specific things they did to advance their careers while protecting their interests and energy.

Attendees of this session will learn about 3 elements that underpin successful professional transitions so that they can position themselves strategically and with confidence. Those elements are:

  • Agency (e.g. persistent belief in one’s self-efficacy and ability to act independently to pursue one’s goals)
  • Influence (e.g. being able to harness and build support for one’s professional goals within one’s professional network)
  • Strategy (e.g. being able to identify opportunities, challenges, and successfully calculating when to marshal one’s resources and network for the optimum professional outcome)

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Discuss how your sense of personal agency can affect goal setting and execution
  • Recognize how building influence through diverse networks can help ease your transition
  • Identify how one would organize their resources and plan their strategy to move forward more confidently

Please Note:

  • Lunch will be provided during this session so advance registration is required.
  • The Women's Career Advancement Symposium was created as a direct result of UCSF female students and alumni asking OCPD for more help with questions around strategic positioning, confident communication and negotiation. As we recognize that everyone can benefit from learning more about these professional skills and strategies all UCSF students, postdocs and alumni of any gender identity are warmly invited to participate in the symposium.
  • Be sure to join us later in the day at 5:30pm at Alumni House for the WCAS Building Community and Sponsorship Mixer! Register Here
